Attorney Staats has dedicated her law practice to family law cases. This encompasses divorce, dissolution, child support, spousal support, custody, visitation, paternity, and other matters. While lawyers passing the state bar exam are licensed to practice family law, few achieve the same level of experience, expertise, or focus on family law matters.<\/p>\n

Experience<\/h2>\n

While in law school, Attorney Staats worked for the Summit County Prosecutor in the Child Support Enforcement Agency. As a law student, she prepared child support modifications, child support termination, and paternity cases. Attorney Staats\u2019 mother was a social worker in child welfare, so she grew up hearing about, and having an affinity for family law matters.<\/p>\n

Prior to establishing her current private practice, Attorney Staats developed business acumen, a skill unique to, but necessary for family law attorneys. Attorney Staats worked at Roadway Express handling pricing contracts, then moved into Roadway\u2019s International Marketing Department, where she monitored federal government activity, and laws regarding international trade and developed and implemented plans accounting for $70 million in annual revenue.<\/p>\n

After working in the business sector, she began to miss the courtroom. She transitioned into a large local law firm where was a litigation associate, working with privately and publicly held corporations, hospitals, hospital officers, medical groups, healthcare providers, and schools. Attorney Staats gained experience in all aspects of commercial litigation including business, contract, employment, and environmental disputes. Her healthcare experience includes litigation involving contracting, discrimination, labor, and credentialing. She counseled clients regarding the anticipation, identification, evaluation, and minimization of business and legal risks. Attorney Staats handled matters at both trial and appellate levels, and has experience in both federal and state courts.<\/p>\n

Shortly after leaving the law firm, Attorney Staats went through a divorce. She saw that all of the skills that she had developed at the Child Support Enforcement Agency as a law student, as a businesswoman at a Fortune 500 company, and as a trial attorney, were the skills needed by family law attorneys. Attorney Staats has taken her vast experience and has dedicated her practice to family law.<\/p>\n

Bar Admissions and Membership<\/h2>\n

Attorney Staats is admitted to the Ohio State Bar, the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio, and the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Attorney Staats is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Akron Bar Association and is a committe member of the Family Law Committee of the Akron Bar Association.<\/p>\n

Education<\/h2>\n

Attorney Staats earned her Juris Doctorate degree from The University of Akron School of Law. She also graduated from the prestigious Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia. Attorney Staats earned her undergraduate degree from The University of Akron, and is a graduate of Archbishop Hoban High School, where she was known by her maiden name of Elisa Longville.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
